9-year-old Mathilde lives with her mother who suffers from a mental illness and is unable to be there for her daughter all the time. Good and bad days mould this extraordinary mother-daughter relationship and make Mathilde learn at a young age to take responsibility for both herself and others. At the same time, she is frustrated about her situation and would like to have a "normal" family. When times are rough, Mathilde can count on her pet, a loquacious owl, who's not only sharing in her adventures but who's also a trustful listener.

"Tomorrow and Thereafter" is a blend of fairy tale, drama film and adventure film. This motion picture weaves together universal topics, such as the energy of a parent-child relationship, and a heart-warming ode to the dissipated imagination of childhood.

15-year-old Sarah does not lead a normal life. Before and after school, she practies for entering the figure-skating competitions taking place at the weekends. Her family supports her, her own mother is her coach and family life revolves around her professional figure-skating career. Withstanding the external pressure and the extremely regulated daily routines is tough for a 10-year-old child, let alone a teenage girl. How will Sarah, being torn between ambition, desire for freedom and her will to emancipate herself, stand up to all this?

On a very personal level, this documentary-like film exemplifies the inner disunity during adolescence and, as a consequence thereof, the search for oneself, appealing to every student.

What to do when you have arrived at a dead end? As recently as a couple of days ago, Paul led an ordinary life. Now the young athlete undergoes several treatments in a rehab centre. An accident left him paralysed from his head down and his healing prospects are doubtful.

"Patients" accompanies his protagonist while he is searching for a new beginning after everything has come to a halt. In the course of this, he receives assistance from therapists, his family as well as both new and old friends. Paul quickly notices how to turn even the most difficult time into something positive.

It is one of the strengths of French cinema to approach complex topics with humour and tactfulness. This is the story of co-director Fabien Marsaud told from his very own past which makes this storyline authentic and entertaining.

In Nazi-occupied Paris, the family of the Jewish hairdresser Roman Joffo fears for their life. In order to avoid being discovered by the Nazis, the family members split up, deny their Jewishness and flee the city. The film shows the journey of the two youngest brothers Joseph and Maurice. In several stages and over the course of several years, the two of them cross the country, constantly frightened they might be discovered an incessantly hoping that they are going to reunite with the rest of their family.

Emigration and abscondence are important and poignant topics of today's society. "A Bag of Marbles" tells the timeless story of an expulsion from the perspective of the expelees. A historic lesson based on the autobiographical novel by Joseph Joffo in the form of a dramatic adventure film.
